Stade Rennes – Lorient: Rennes eats hake

Rennes received Lorient for a Breton derby this Sunday, counting for the 34th day of Ligue 1, and largely won (5-0).

Ligue 1, Stade Rennes 5-0 Lorient

After two defeats in a row against Monaco then Strasbourg, Stade Rennes had to react against Lorient. For this derby, the SRFC faced an opponent struggling to maintain, in other words within its reach given the European ambitions of the red and black club. For this meeting, Bruno Genesio had to do without Loic Badé, again injured in the adductors. Uncertain before the meeting, Nayef Aguerd was finally fit and took his place alongside Warmed Omari. Majer-Tait-Santamaria in the middle, Serhou Guirassy took the lead, instead of Gaëtan Laborde.

And after a kick off given by the Merlus, the Rennais quickly regained control of the ball. Launched on the right side, Bourigeaud was unable to straighten his ball, for the first opportunity of the match (4and). Masters of the game, the Rouge et Noir got a second chance when Tait entered the area, and found Guirassy, just caught by the Lorient defense (11and). Lorient reacted with a free kick kicked by Le Fée which Boisgard headed back. At the far post, Laporte put back but found on his way Traoré, who pushed back. After consulting the VAR, the referee judged that there was no hand and did not award a penalty. A quarter of an hour into the game, Rennes continued to develop their game, Bourigeaud picking up a lot, and having swapped with Terrier. At the 16and minute, Terrier served by Traoré arrived in the area on the right side and shot hard at the near post. The ball pushed back by Dreyer arrived on Bourigeaud who concluded with a splendid volley (17and). Barely time to breathe for the Lorientais that the Rennais offered themselves a second goal. This time Tait was on the pass and found Terrier over the defense, via a blocked ball. The striker took all the time to control and adjust Dreyer (19and). 2-0 and a 21and goal for Terrier in Ligue 1 this season, allowing him to beat Alexander Frei’s record at 21and century, and that of Jean Grumellon in the history of the club, with a goal scored for the seventh league game in a row, a performance never achieved.

Aguerd expelled, Laborde freed

Rennes continued to unfold, and Pélissier was forced into a change, Innocent touched. The former Rennais Armand Laurienté came into play. The SRFC supported with Majer twice (30and32and). Bourigeaud then served Truffert whose center was taken over by Tait (35and) but captured by Dreyer. The Hakes procured two incursions, which yielded nothing (40and). Majer did not apply on a free kick (43and) which passed far above. At the break, Rennes led 2-0 and dominated all the debates.

And as soon as they returned from the locker room, the Rennais worsened the score. On a corner, Majer and Bourigeaud played quickly and the number 14 found Traoré at the near post who scored with a header. 3-0 for Rennes! Laurienté replied for FCL, with a long shot captured by Alemdar (50and). The SRFC suffered a big blow before the hour mark, when Laurienté went deep, behind the defense. Caught by Aguerd but stopped irregularly, the referee whistled a foul, and expelled Nayef Aguerd, (58and). The free kick then fired by Laurienté ended up in the wall. Bruno Genesio replaced Majer and Guirassy with Martin and Laborde, while Moffi replaced Boisgard at Les Merlus.

We then entered a quarter of an hour disturbed by various stoppages for fouls, or numerous changes on the Lorient side. Laborde was very close to finding Bourigeaud (73and) while Santamaria took place left axis in hinge, at the side of Omari. Assignon replaced Bourigeaud on the right wing, and Rennes were not worried, even in numerical inferiority. Better, the SRFC worsened the mark. Truffert on the fallout of a cross from the right took a heavy volley that Dreyer released. Assignon fought for the recovery and gave it to Tait who cocked from 25 yards and unleashed a clear strike surprising Dreyer. 4-0 at the 79and ! The striker came out in stride as did Terrier, replaced by Ugochukwu and Meling. Abergel appealed to Alemdar who remained vigilant and was decisive with a fine save (87and). Lemoine on volley did not have more success (90and). At the end of the game, served by Lorenz Assignon launched on the right side, Gaëtan Laborde put an end to a long period of scarcity by resuming in two stages from the left. 5-0 after extra time!

Rennes picked up three new points and consolidated their third place, taking another advantage on goal difference with this new big victory. The bad news is all the same the suspension of Aguerd, who will therefore miss the reception of Saint-Etienne, and perhaps the derby against Nantes depending on the verdict of the disciplinary committee.
